beta chapter

Hamilton, Ontario

Established in 2011 at McMaster University, Beta Chapter was the first expansion of Tau Sigma Phi beyond our founding campus—marking an important step in our growth as a national organization. While it began at McMaster, Beta has since extended its reach to include members from across the Hamilton region, including Mohawk College. Today, Beta is proud to be Hamilton’s largest sorority, fostering a vibrant and supportive community rooted in our pillars of sisterhood, philanthropy, and scholarship.

About

A message from the president

Dear Members, Friends, and Future Sisters,

Welcome to the Tau Sigma Phi Beta Chapter at McMaster University! My name is Akilah, and I have the honour of serving as Chapter President for the 2025–2026 academic year. It’s a privilege to lead a chapter filled with ambitious, supportive, and genuine women who continually remind me what true sisterhood is all about.

When I first arrived at McMaster, I never imagined myself joining a sorority. In fact, I was hesitant about rushing. I wasn’t sure what a sorority really was, or what being part of one would mean for me. I wondered if I’d fit in, if it was the right space for me, or if I’d find something real in the process. But taking that leap in the second semester of my first year was one of the most defining choices of my university experience.

From the very beginning, Tau Sigma Phi became more than just a group, it became my home. I found a community of women who uplift, challenge, and celebrate one another. Women who lead with kindness, show up for each other, and are committed to growth individually and collectively. Being part of this sisterhood has allowed me to step into leadership, serve my community, and form lifelong bonds that have carried me through every high and low.

Even during my exchange semester abroad, when I was thousands of miles away, my sisters never stopped showing up for me sending messages, checking in, and reminding me that distance could never weaken our connection. That’s the kind of love and support you find here and it’s what I hope every member gets to experience.

As a chapter, we’re also deeply committed to making a difference beyond ourselves. Our philanthropy, Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, holds a special place in our hearts. Through events like Run for the Cure, Pretty in Pink, and Relay for Life, we’ve raised awareness, honoured survivors, and stood in solidarity for a cause that affects so many. These events are more than just fundraisers, they are moments of unity, impact, and purpose that reflect what our sisterhood stands for.

As we move into the 2025–2026 year, our goal remains clear: to create a space where every member feels empowered, valued, and supported not just as a sister, but as a whole person. We’re committed to helping each other grow academically, socially, and personally, while continuing to build a legacy rooted in loyalty, integrity, and compassion. Whether you’re curious about Greek life, considering joining, or reconnecting as an alumna, I encourage you to explore our chapter and our story. You never know, like me, you might just take that one leap and find something life-changing.

With love and sisterhood,

Akilah Osborne
